Mahanati underperforms in second weekend in us boxoffice

After crossing the $ 2M mark in overseas, Tollywood’s latest hit film Mahanati isn’t performing as per expectations in its second weekend at the US box office. The film has collected $ 85K and $ 135K approximately on second Friday and Saturday respectively.

As of this writing, the second Sunday gross is around $ 100K and the total has surpassed the $ 2.3 M mark. Trade circles reckon that the film has underperformed in the second weekend despite unanimous positive reports and strong word of mouth.

If we consider the second weekend performances of some of the recent runaway hits like Fidaa and A..Aa which collected close $ 350K, it can be assumed that Mahanati has lost its steam slightly as it managed to collect only $ 325K. While footfalls might be comparable to other movies,-considering extra ordinary word of mouth and reviews, it should have collected much higher in the second week.

Trade circles have expected around $ 375K to $ 400K as it received better web reviews and public talk than Fidaa and A..Aa. But, Mahanati has fallen short of their expectations.
