Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s July 14 release Jagga Jasoos is a musical romantic comedy that takes us on the adventures of a teenage detective. Played by Ranbir, Jagga Jasoos is on a quest to find his missing father. He is accompanied by his companion Shruti (Katrina), who is also a journalist. Together they promise to take us on a rollercoaster, fun ride in this film written and directed by Anurag Basu.

The film also stars Adah Sharma, Saurabh Shukla, Sayani Gupta, Saswata Chatterjee and Kiran Srinivas in pivotal roles. The songs from the film (music by Pritam, lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya) have been received well, helping the film create the much needed buzz around the film.Does Jagga Jasoos live up to all the hype and expectations? India.com film critic Smrity Sharma is watching the film right now and here’s her first impression of this Ranbir – Katrina starrer.

Smrity says, “The story starts in 1995 when illegal arms were dropped from an aircraft in Purulia district of West Bengal. This is established as the main plot of the film, with several sub plots which introduce us to a little Jagga, who grew up to be Jagga Jasoos. Shruti (Katrina Kaif) tell us Jagga’s journey through the Jagga Jasoos comic series. The first half is full of adventure, taking us through Jagga’s childhood days, the entry of Tooty Footy aka Badal Bagchi (Saswata Chatterjee) into his life that shapes him into the curious kid and one who sings to overcome his stammering problem. Jagga is endearing and it is hard to not love him. He is popular in his boarding school as well and someone who the cops admire too for he has helped them solve various cases and nab criminals.

Ranbir as Jagga is cute and Katrina as journalist Shruti is amazing. Their chemistry is what works for the story which has an inconsistent graph. They meet in Manipur when Shruti is investigating the case of unauthorised arms being smuggled from Burma to India. Jagga helps her come out safe of this dangerous mess. By the interval, he learns that Bagchi is dead and we know that all this is connected. Will Jagga be able to connect the dots and find the truth behind Tooty Footy’s sudden disappearance and death? Will Shruti help him get to the truth? We’ll find that out post the interval.”
