She is also known as Begum Akhtar, Born in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh on October 7, 1914.
she started singing at the age of 7.
She was mainly known for Hindustani classical music, After training she became the disciple of Ustad Jhande Khan.
Her publicly started for the first time at the age of 15. Sarojini Naidu was one of her early well wishers and a fan of her singing. She became one of the first female singers to give concerts.
This lead her to the title of Mallika-e-Ghazal.
