Manu Review:
Plot of Manu is pretty novel. The film has a different setup. It happens at a place over a night and revolves round just five characters. Manu is technically well made film. Like his short films, director’s deliberate attempt to present the film different from regular movies is visible throughout the film.
However, the wafer thin story and uneven screenplay rarely have any engaging moment. After a point, the film becomes tedious to watch. Lengthy runtime adds to the woes. Confusing narration and unnecessary complication and confusing narration makes it terrible. The film may be creative and poetic but doesn’t fulfill any entertainment or emotional cravings.
Performance:
Chandni Chowdary is pretty with gorgeous screen presence and emoted well in certain scenes. Gautam has evolved as an actor since his debut. He portrayed the complex role with subtle nuances.
Technically:
Manu is technically solid. Cinematography is top notch. Captivating visuals with never seen before frames provide a different cinematic experience. Production design gives an offbeat ambience.
Dialogues are impactful. Background score too sounds fresh and lifts the mood of the film.
Director Phanidra who is acclaimed for his stylish short films brings the same flavor to feature film. But he should have focused on script for better appeal as a movie.
Bottom-line: “Manu – A Painting with no sense”
Cast : Raja Goutham, Chandini Chowdary
